My Dog Ate An Ibuprofen

Enrico Rava and Stefano Bollanni at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli June 23, 2008

Some say that "art" and "freedom" sometimes arise from the restriction, perhaps by the rules, guidelines, the right choice about things you need to delete and add ... maybe not this duet, the virtuoso piano and the magical Bollani Enrico Rava on trumpet, are evidence of concrete. This is evident from the wonderful balance that are able to advent, each in its place, each with its own duty to perform, each with its own musicality, with their imagination.
also show surrounded by a great sense of humor and entertainment, no lack of laughs, including a burlesque of the music and their use of spoken interludes.
perhaps a concert, at the beginning and at least for myself, not in keeping constant on that something that ties the listener-viewer to create, but after the first few minutes of knowledge and the first interaction between the public and musicians is given the way for a show that has done well to understand the technical skills and not just the two that are definitely among the most important musicians of the Italian music scene.
Enrico Rava surely in the guise of lighthearted melancholy melodies weaver, so is the his trumpet. No solos to break the lungs, but great sophistication and accuracy in timing, an excellent technique, as a perfect pitch, perfect to one thousandth of a second insertion in the avalanche of notes that sometimes protruding from the floor of his friend. Melodie first outlined (in the background while you hear a piano-controlled), then transfigured, then broken note: the sounds of brass.
The task, that of Bollani, difficult: keep at bay thousands of notes that followed each other with an intense pace. For most of the concert piano playing percussion for nearly a limited use of the damper pedal, he notes with broken sometimes by their rapid succession, not forced in large intervals but ranged over all the octaves of the piano keyboard.

A music, their overall, to be appreciated for their artistic choices for the immense color with which the two were able to paint their music, using all the heights they had available, the various possibility of timbre of the instruments, playing with the intensity of notes: this means a conscious use of artistic creativity and strong characterization.
softening slightly at the end, relieved by a touch quasi-experimental, have been recalled three times by the audience on stage, offering a couple of interesting pieces of these outputs: one who has seen as a sort of signature to istauratosi link between the public and musicians along the way, the direct participation of those present who have gone to form the third strrmento in a vibrant chorus, and the other offering a beautiful rendition of the song often used jazz standards as "Summer" by Bruno Martino.
What a fantastic couple!
technique, emotion, characterization, entertainment, research ... freedom .... art ...
